Wells Grey Provincial Park

Image
Wells Grey PP is 550,000ha of wilderness forest, rivers, lakes and mountains.  We camped beside Clearwater Lake. Saw 5 black bears, dozens of skwirls (squirrels to you and me) and a couple of deer. No moose yet, although the walking tracks are covered in moose dung. They obviously use the trails as much as we do. We have often wondered what we will do if we round a bend and meet a bull moose walking toward us.  Annie prefers that I lead. It was a real thrill to see our first bears. They like to graze dandelions on the roadsides and pretty much ignore the wide-eyed tourists. The photos really don't do the scenery justice.

Squamish, Whistler and Nairn Falls

Picked up our van today after a thorough briefing from the lovely Angie. Managed to stay on the right side of the road with continued encouragement from Annie. Rode the Sea to Sky gondola at Squamish before heading to our camp site for 2 nights at Nairn Falls Provincial Park. Great campsite and the falls are spectacular with the river swollen from snow melt. The next day was spent at the alpine resort town of Whistler. Lots of mountain bikers utilising the ski slopes and lifts. Nice walk following ex olympic cross country ski routes to Lost Lake.

Vancouver

Arrived in our Stayz accommodation in Vancouver after a long but uneventful flight. Our unit is 2 blocks from a train station on the city to airport line making it very easy to get around town.  We spent the first day cycling around Stanley Park and walking parts of the city. Annie got an Ebike and it looks like she will be trading in her pedal version as soon as we get home.  Annie claims she did manage to get a distant squirrel in one of her photos but I'm afraid it didn't make the cut. We spent most of today wandering around Granville Island markets. Some very high end organic gourmet delicacies. Had clam chowder for lunch. Check out the Tomahawk steaks. They would have been 50mm thick. We passed on the steak but a blueberry pie for tonight's dessert.
